Beautiful Criminal (McCoy's Boys #1) by Shady Grace Review
BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL was a bit of a let down for me. Being a quick read didn't work very well with the romantic suspense element. Things had to move way too fast and I didn't feel like I had time to get invested into Mima and Gabriel before the story is suddenly wrapped up. Mima and Gabriel going from strangers to lovers so quickly was jarring. Gabriel doesn't even have time to fully recover before the physical contact happens. Added to that they were not responsible in their impulsive sexual relationship. Mima is supposed to be a smart and self-reliant woman so she should have at the very least protected herself before sleeping with an unknown man. I know, I know-they get caught up in the moment and spontaneity is erotically enticing. What isn't enticing is the possibility of sitting in a doctor's office waiting for test results later on down the line.
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy BEAUTIFUL CRIMINAL as a romantic suspense story either. Everything is rushed and glossed over because there simply wasn't time within a novella length story for the plot to develop well. The premise is a good one but the story fulfillment just wasn't there for me. If given more time to develop and unfold at a better pace I think that this would have been a good read. I could have enjoyed Grace's writing if it had not been so rushed and forced into a short space. If the next book is a full length story I may give it a try.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.**
Long days, precious nights…
Mima Etu lives a quiet life with her sled dogs in the stunning Canadian Rockies. But that all changes when she stumbles upon a plane crash while out on a supply run. She’s shocked to discover the pilot is still alive—though barely. With the sun setting and the temperatures quickly dropping, Mima knows he’d never survive the trip to the nearest hospital. So she takes the stranger back to her cabin. As he heals, his vague answers to Mima’s questions about the flight tell her he has secrets. But more disturbing is the consuming, immediate attraction she senses between them.
Before he lost control of his Cessna and plunged into a pilot’s hell, Gabriel Miller was on a deadly mission with precious cargo. Now he’s awakened in the comfort of a log cabin with a gorgeous woman tending to his every need. Her soft-spoken beauty sparks his longing for a different kind of life….and it isn’t long before they surrender to a blazing passion. But their blissful days are numbered. For the owners of the cargo are bent on finding Gabriel—and once they do, they don’t intend to leave any witnesses behind.
