Man Booker Prize Longlist 2017

The 2017 Man Booker Prize longlist announcement is out, and it makes me want to take a look at some of my long term reading goals. I would like to be the kind of reader who sees this list of touted  books and then proceed to read all of them before the shortlist announcement, which will happen on September 13th; but I know that won't happen! I accept the fact that I am not a disciplined reader. I'm a mood reader and I can easily be distracted by a shiny object in the form of a new release, an older book that I have just discovered, or a pretty book that I run across on social media or a thrift store.

Some of the books on this list sound interesting to me, and I would like to work my way through most on this list over time. Maybe I could read them by this time next year! I only own two of the books on this list and have only read one. The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead (You can read my review of it here) and Lincoln in the Bardo by George Sanders, which I haven't read yet. I don't read as much literary fiction as I should and adding more literary fiction to my reading is a goal for me. We'll see; sometimes literary fiction can be a bit dry and tedious to work through.

Do you follow any literary or other book prize lists? If so, please share them with me so that I can see what other genre lists are out there celebrating excellence in writing.

The 2017 Man Booker Prize longlist:

  1. I have to go through the longlist and read the synopsis for each book. I’ve been putting it off because I know it’s going to murder my TBR list. I’ll want to read all of them.

    1. Yep, there's too many good things to read to keep up!
